The Strategic Council of the Global Mental Health Program at Columbia University provides support to the leadership of the program to help grow and sustain the pioneering work being conducted to close the gap between what we know and what we do about mental health around the world.
This work is taking place at Columbia University under the leadership of Dr. Kathleen M. Pike, Professor, Executive Director and Scientific Co-Director of the GMHP. The GMHP has priority research, education and advocacy initiatives that engage multiple Columbia faculty and students as well as global collaborations with academia, humanitarian organizations and the World Health Organization.
The GMHP Leadership keeps members of the Strategic Council abreast of the work that is happening globally, and members of the Strategic Council may be asked, on occasion, to accompany the Executive Director to high level business meetings and/or meetings with global leaders in the field of mental health.
Members of the Strategic Council advance the Global Mental Health Program in the following ways:
• Assist with networking and introductions to business leaders, foundations and corporations in order to expand opportunities for partnerships and financial support;
• Provide guidance on large strategic issues for the Global Mental Health Program;
• Review and consult on important initiatives, including considerations regarding the Annual Global Symposium and the expansion of the Global Clinical Practice Network.
